     Peter John O'Rorke OAM JP was born on 21 September 1939 at Willaura, Vic. He married Margaret Helen Johnson, daughter of Harry Johnson and Nancy Gertrude Williams, on 1 October 1966 at Warrnambool, Vic. Peter John O'Rorke OAM JP died on 26 May 2010 at age 70; Road Accident near Carnaghm, 25km west of Ballarat - 2.00 pm. He was buried on 3 June 2010; Lake Bolac Cemetery following a service at St Bernard's Catholic Church, Lake Bolac. It is estimated some 600 people attended.
     Peter John O'Rorke OAM JP was Biography Peter was educated at Lake Bolac Primary School and then at St Joseph's Christian Brothers in Geelong. then returning home to the family farm "Glendalough".

From 1957 to 1965 he played football as a member of the Lake Bolac team and remained a keen follower all his life.

Another lifelong passion was the Surf Life Saving Association first as a competitor then as an official of the Association.

He joined the local Rural Fire Brigade (Country Fire Authority) in 1955, remaining an active member all his life and he held a number of positions in the State organisation.

He pioneered the use of light aircraft in fire control, an operation which was later taken over and expanded by the CFA.

He was elected to the Ararat Shire Council in 1974 and served there, and following Government amalgamations, in the Ararat Rural City Council until 2004.

He was twice Shire President and twice Mayor of the Ararat Rural City Council. In 2001 he was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal for services to Local Government.

In 1998 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his longstanding contribution to Local Government, Surf Life Saving, the Country Fire Authority and Community Service. He was appointed as a Justice of the Peace (JP) in 1976.

His funeral was attended by an estimated 600 people from all walks of life
between 1939 and 2010.
